E-News from State and Federal Communications, Inc.

September 2005     Vol 1  Issue 1

Welcome to Our New E-Newsletter

Dear Friends,

I am very excited to introduce State and Federal Communications’ new electronic newsletter – Compliance Now.

This will now come to you as a monthly e-mail at no cost. Each issue highlights important news related to State and Federal Communications’ services in the fields of lobbying, political contributions, and procurement compliance.

As you may already know, we are the only company in the world that provides a comprehensive group of resources related to the constantly changing parameters and laws associated with lobbying, political contributions, and procurement for states and municipalities.

We will also solicit from our client’s questions and comments of interest, which we will carefully – and anonymously – discuss that may be of benefit to all of our clients.

I also encourage you to share our e-newsletter with your colleagues.  If they would also like to receive a copy of Compliance Now for free each month, they can ‘opt in’ as shown on the bottom of the newsletter, or sign up at our website www.stateandfed.com

I look forward to your comments into this new dimension of communication offered by State and Federal Communications to its clients.

Compliance Can Reach The Highest Levels

Thirty years ago we launched the first of our services to help companies, organizations, and lobbyists understand the business of political contributions. These early handbooks covered laws on state lobbying and political contributions.

Today, we delve much deeper into the increasingly complex legal and reporting requirements surrounding compliance in these fields. This e-newsletter provides a way to communicate with you, our valued client, in a more personal way about this fascinating, but yet vitally important, aspect of corporate responsibilities.

We will extend the scope of this e-newsletter from general overviews of topics, to specific points of interest, sometimes even on a state-by-state basis.

Take for instance the great state of Ohio, which finds its governor in an uncomfortable pose on the front page of The Cleveland Plain Dealer, August 19, 2005, because of what most of us consider simple and responsible compliance matters, which he and his staff neglected. He merely needed to comply with current law and list his activities, but this lack of reporting cost him front page headlines, a fine and other charges.

Could any one of you or your organizations have been in this picture? Although it is possible, we hope not.

Certainly in our industry, compliant use of knowledge and wisdom is powerful and carries each of our specific messages not only to the state and federal governments, but also to our constituents and clients throughout the United States.

NCSL Hosts Legislators from Across the Country

Seattle was host to the recent National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) from August 16-20, 2005. This annual event brings together legislators, lobbyists, business executives, and service providers to discuss the latest developments in the industry.

Bill Gates opened the event this year and John Chichester, President Pro Tempore of the Virginia Senate, received the nation's top state legislative honor during the NCSL, the 2005 Excellence in State Legislative Leadership Award.

State and Federal Communications again participated with a team of professionals staffing our own exhibit. It is wonderful to see many of our clients face-to-face and have the opportunity to answer their questions regarding compliance. We also have a good forum to explain our breadth of services and introduce prospective clients to our ALERTS service, a separate and personalized program to help corporations and their lobbyists track and file the numerous required reports in the states.

Plan on attending next year’s NCSL in Nashville, in August 2006.                Elizabeth Bartz and EDS' Jean Cantrell

The 2006 Executive Source Guides

Within the next month, you will be receiving our new 2006 catalog (shown here), featuring the Executive Source Guides on State Lobbying LawsTM, Political ContributionsTM, Procurement LobbyingTM and News You Can UseTM.

This 12-page catalog provides an in-depth review of each of these guides and why they are so valuable to you. For the convenience of our clients, we are again offering these guides individually, and are now also bundling these guides together in cost-saving packages.

All clients who purchase any of the guides for 2006, will automatically receive for free, our News You Can UseTM, which provides weekly e-news summaries of national and state articles on ethics, lobbying and campaign finance. Many of our clients remark to me that this service is invaluable in keeping them informed on news in our field, and would subscribe to this service whatever the cost. We choose to provide it
free to our clients as an ongoing service.  See www.stateandfed.com
